The Heartshine Clown Troupe began in 1990 and have been sharing the joy of their faith ever since. The current troupe has 14 clowns ranging in age from 14 to 65. They have participated in many aspects of worship including: children stories, presenting the entire worship service on Clown Sunday which is held every summer, special fund raisers, Love Feast & Communion, and have even performed a skit during the funeral of one of their members. Their participation in events outside the church include: the Multicultural Festival in the park, going to nursing homes, clowning at a family reunion, Camp Mardela, and First Night Talbot. The troupe has performed at many other local churches. We have held workshops for others interested in Christian clowning. Our ministry is open to anyone age 12 to 112. We believe that clowns have the unique ability to not only bring happiness and laughter, but also to invoke deep emotions with the simplicity of their message. Since we are a mime troupe, there is power in silence. One of the best responses we have ever had to any performance is, "That was the best sermon I never heard."

The puppet ministry began a little over a year ago on March 1, 2003. It included one puppet, Ezmarelda or Ez as her friends call her, a dog with attitude. Since then, the ministry has grown to include: Cedric the sea serpent, Baathsheba the sheep, Paco the Spanish-speaking parrot, Mewsetta the Persian cat, Gabby the chipmunk, and Carp the Chinese dragon. We are also expecting some new faces in the upcoming year. The puppets usually do the children's story during morning worship but are very versatile and have also provided comic relief at the church's annual breast cancer awareness fund raiser. Their stories are always funny, but have a good lesson woven in. All of the skits are original and compliment the theme of the service in a way that children can understand and identify with. The puppets can be used in a variety of settings and appeal just as much to the adults as the children. In fact they are sure they could fit in any situation. |
